The Common Admission Test, popularly known as CAT, is the gateway to the immensely reputed Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs). Here are the Important dates, Pattern and cracking tips for CAT 2012

Important dates:
Registration Dates: 30th of July to the 19th of September.
CAT Exam: 11th of October to the 6th of November.
CAT Results : 9th of January, 2013.
All the CAT vouchers can be collected from select branches of Axis Bank from 30th July to the 17th of September.
CAT paper pattern:
The CAT paper will follow the same basic structure that was followed in 2011.The paper shall consist of two sections:
- Quantitative Ability and Data Interpretation
- Verbal Ability and Logical Reasoning
- Both these sections have to be dealt with in a sequential manner. The time limits are separate.
- Each section will last for seventy minutes each.
- There will be thirty questions in each section and the time will be kept with the help of an on screen countdown timer.
- One cannot go back to the first section once the allotted seventy minutes are over.
- The test will be preceded by a fifteen minute tutorial that will enable the candidates to grasp the important aspects of the testing procedure and approach the test in the right manner.
- The whole test, along with the tutorial, will last for two hours and thirty five minutes.

- Candidates can log on to the website www.catiim.in and get access to a practice test.
- The practice test will not only help the candidates to familiarise themselves with the basic structure of the paper, but also help them to give the actual test much more confidently.
- The practice test begins with the tutorial and explains each and every step in detail.

- Take the practice test to understand the layout of the test
- Figure out your strengths and weaknesses
- Make a study plan and stick to it
- Keep ample time for revision
- Most importantly, work on your time management since the CAT is a time bound
